Recently we came across a very dangerous social media trend ‘Game of 72’ and now we have a new one within days. But this one makes a little more sense than to its predecessor. Why is it so? Because experts believe that teens undergo hormonal and other chemical changes that brings their inclination towards creepy stuff.
By now, it’s been played by thousands of teens. This bizarre craze has taken over Twitter, Vine, and Tumblr with the #CharlieCharlieChallenge.
The games involves placing two pencil perpendicular to each other on Ouija board. There is a paper underneath the pencils with the alternative quadrants labelled as ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. Then Charlie is summoned by asking “Charlie, Charlie are you here?” the top pencil is supposed to move like a dial to the either quadrants.
Charlie seems like a real contender against the ‘Slender Man’ but not as equally grim though. We know that tweens and teens would go bonkers over anything but the reason why they resonate so uniquely about the supernatural horror is because their mushroom brains are primed perfectly for this time of excitement.
Who Is Charlie?
Charlie seems more like one of the Halloween’s contemporary character with no firm base of its origin. Though some say that it is a Mexican tradition and Charlie was a child who died of abuse.
Why Teens Love Horrifying Stuff?
According to Schlozman, an assistant professor of psychiatry for Harvard Medical School, in his interview with Fusion, explains that teens’ minds allow them to think about the way they think, so they explore it with all the spooky attractions. Adolescents are able to achieve recursive thinking which helps them hold onto multiple ideas simultaneously.
The doctor added that young minds are highly conscious of the rules and when they get older, they try to experiment by breaking those rules. They try to experience ‘supernatural’ so to achieve a virtual state of danger without actually putting themselves into any sort of harm.
Social Media Trends are a Premonition
Parents really need to look into the fact that how these social media trends are escalating in their magnitude, giving a possible clue about what is awaiting them. It seems pertinent than even before to monitor kids. A smartphone monitoring tool can be pretty handy for this purpose.
