If you are a parent, then you would know how quickly kids pick up the latest technology these days. And if you used to flaunt to others about your kid’s iPad using skills as a toddler, then you should also know that the same kid can have, if they want to, access to all kind of inappropriate stuff that might not be suitable for their ages. The worst part—you might not even know anything about it.
Take a look at these 4 apps that if you see in your kid’s phone, then it would mean some danger is awaiting you.
1. Snapchat
I would really want to talk about Snapchat in the first place as the company has been claiming their fame on the grounds of self-destruct pictures and videos. But in reality, its plain wrong. The few seconds message that a user uploads doesn’t simply evaporate in the thin air. Anyone can take a screenshot of the uploaded photo. Though the app notifies other person that a screenshot has been taken, but once that photo gets into the wrong hands, there is nothing that a lame-ass notification can help with.
And not to forget that last October, hackers got into the third party servers of Snapchat and accessed millions of those so-called “deleted Snapchats”. Though the company can’t be exactly blamed for the breach, but it further tells us that pictures don’t disappear.
If you see your kids using Snapchat, tell them to share their shared Snapchats with you guys. Also you can tell them to add you in their friends list.
2. Tinder
This app is not about sharing stuff online, it’s a dating app, where you sign up and find partners for yourself, instantaneously. The profiles that you make are publicly visible so that you find the “perfect match”.
Tinder is all about finding romance and dates and this is definitely something that you won’t want your kids to do with strangers. Apps like these is a playground for pedophiles and sexual harassers. So in short, Tinder is dangerous for the kids.
3. Vine
Vine is an app through which you can share and record videos of 6 seconds. Seems like a safe app but it isn’t at all. Peer pressure especially when it comes to online stuff is pretty dangerous for your kids. A few recent social media trends can prove that kids can do anything to get their attention on social media.
Be sure to follow your kid on Vine or any other social media app. if they don’t let you do it, don’t panic. Use a parental control app on their smartphone and access every bit of information on their smartphone remotely.
4. Whisper
I have saved this one for the last because it’s so hateful and appalling. Whisper actually lets you share rumors and secrets by posting anonymously. As anyone can “whisper” about the other person, this app certainly can draw too many problems for the kids. The anonymity over the internet is another reason why you should never leave kids alone with strangers in chat rooms or on social media websites.
